Rocky Mountain Power Wins Peak Load Management Alliance’s Outstanding Program Achievement Award
Comverge Powers Intelligent Energy Management Program for Industry Pioneer
NORCROSS, GA., April 13, 2011 - Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial & Industrial customers, today announced that Rocky Mountain Power, a Comverge customer, was selected as the winner of the Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA) 2010 Award for Outstanding Program Achievement. The Rocky Mountain Power Cool Keeper program, a first-of-its-kind Virtual Peaking Capacity intelligent energy management program, is designed to help better manage electricity demand during the critical summer months.
“The Cool Keeper Program allows us to work closely with our customers to reduce electricity demand during the critical summer months,” said Carol Hunter, Vice President, Rocky Mountain Power. “The program really proved its value last summer with 100,000 customers working together to reduce electricity demand during a period of very hot weather. The results were award enough, but it’s nice to also receive recognition from the PLMA.”
Rocky Mountain Power, a division of PacifiCorp, is one of the lowest-cost electric utilities in the United States, providing one million customers in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho with safe, reliable, efficient electricity. To reduce demand on the state's service area along the Wasatch Front (an 80-mile stretch of territory in Utah), where peak-demand for electricity is the highest on the utility's system, Rocky Mountain Power partnered with Comverge to leverage its proven intelligent energy management solutions. The resulting program has helped Rocky Mountain Power improve system reliability within its service territory and keep electricity costs down by successfully delivering more than 100 megawatts (MW) of peak demand load reduction.
"Rocky Mountain Power has achieved outstanding results with its Cool Keeper program and we are pleased that they are receiving industry recognition for their innovative work,” said Comverge President and CEO, R. Blake Young. "The PLMA’s Demand Response Annual Awards showcase the critical role that demand response plays within our nations’ energy mix and we are proud to have one of our customers win the outstanding program achievement award.”
PLMA’s Demand Response Annual Awards recognize innovative and creative demand response programs. The Awards were judged by energy industry experts with judges evaluating entries based on a broad range of criteria including overall program results, customer satisfaction, program management, customer education, cost effectiveness and long-term viability.
