Comverge and OnStar Demonstrate Energy Management of Electric Vehicles at DistribuTECH 2011
Demonstration Integrates Intelligent Energy Management Platform
with Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
DistribuTECH, San Diego, Calif., February 1, 2011 – Comverge, Inc. (Nasdaq: COMV), a leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial and Industrial customers is demonstrating at DistribuTECH this week how OnStar’s electric vehicle infrastructure can be integrated with the Comverge IntelliSOURCE platform. The demonstration will show how utilities can monitor and control the energy used by electric vehicles, like the Chevrolet Volt, within broader energy efficiency and intelligent energy management programs.
“With almost every major car manufacturer investing in this market, it is only a matter of time before electric cars start to make up a significant portion of the vehicles sold each year,” said R. Blake Young, President and CEO, Comverge. “With an anticipated 10 million PEVs on the grid by 2020, this new generation of cars will reduce carbon emissions and dependencies on oil, and they will also place huge demands on power plants and transmission lines. With OnStar we can demonstrate how the energy consumed by electric vehicles can be intelligently monitored and controlled while we also illustrate the benefits of integrating data from electric vehicles alongside information from existing energy efficiency programs and other next-generation applications.”
The Comverge intelligent energy management platform-- IntelliSOURCE-- envisions a host of new energy management applications that not only support the integration of PEVs, but also other applications like renewables and dynamic pricing. Years of investment in the IntelliSOURCE platform, the only comprehensive enterprise-class platform for the smart grid, enables Comverge to uniquely combine energy management software, hardware and services.
“Managing electricity supply and demand has always been extremely complex,” said Nick Pudar, vice president, planning and business development at OnStar. “The embedded technology of OnStar allows for accurate monitoring and controlling of the energy used by electric vehicles like the Volt. We’re excited to offer OnStar’s services in preparing customers and utilities for electric vehicles.”
