Comverge Launches Suite of ZigBeeTM Enabled Demand Response Solutions
East Hanover, NJ - February 5, 2007: Comverge, Inc. announced today its launch of a suite of ZigBee enabled Demand Response products designed to integrate with cutting edge Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. The new technology will enable utilities to offer energy-saving rate structures such as time-of-use (TOU) and critical peak pricing (CPP) by enabling communication between the meter and the home energy automation / Demand Response device. The new technology is being showcased in Comverge’s booth (No. 522) at this week’s DistribuTech® conference in San Diego.
Price Responsive, TOU, and CPP pricing schedules are designed to enable end-consumers to respond to the changes in the price of electricity on the wholesale market by tailoring their usage patterns. These programs have gained increasing national interest over the past two years since the Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandated that utilities and regulators research alternative pricing mechanisms in an effort to curb exponentially rising peak energy costs.
Comverge’s ZigBee communications solution, when integrated into its SuperStat and Digital Control Unit products, is designed to enable a two-way communication solution with any Advanced Metering Infrastructure system that support ZigBee.
Comverge will also be demonstrating its TOU / Price Responsive software module and participant web portal, which enables participating consumers to pre-program their energy usage response to a change in price tier. This module is presently available for SuperStat products that use the price response features.
“Continuing innovation is a core principle of Comverge,” commented Robert M. Chiste, Comverge Chairman, CEO and President. “We’ve developed these solutions to enable our customers who are actively targeting AMI programs to integrate in-home communications and price response-based Demand Response into their advanced metering deployments.”
